헷갈리는 문법!

<정관사 the> 

- 항상 정관서 the를 써야하는 경우

 

1.  The first

- The first item I traveled to Japan, I was by myself. 

 

2. The same

- I didn't want to eat the same thing, every day 

 

3. The only

- The only thing I didn't eat was American food. 

 

4. The + Morning, Afternoon, Evening

- The morning meals were interesting.

- I usually have lessons in the afternoon.

- It is usually warm in the evenings in the summer here.

 

5. The rest

- I got used to it by the rest of the trip 

- If you like, why don't you eat the rest of the chocolate pie.

 

6. The last, The next

- The last time I went to Canada, I stayed in Toronto.

- Please look at the next sentence in this lesson.

 

7. The future, The pass

- I will probably have another set of lessons on adverb in the future. 

- In the past, there was no Internet or cellphones.

귀찮은 관사『a, an, the』정복하기

*  부정관사 “a/an”

• 사물을  처음으로 언급할 때
1.  I saw a drunk man on the bus this morning.
2. I had an apple for breakfast
• 직업에 대해 말할 때
1. I am an English teacher
2. She is a waiter

* 관사 “the”

- 이미 언급한 사물에 대해서

1 I have a son and a daughter. The boy is five and the girl is ten.

- 지리, 지역의 명칭

1. Some animals live in the North Pole

2. It’s very hot at the equator.

- 강, 바다

1. The Nile is the longest river in the world.

2. The Pacific Ocean is in the East of Korea.

- 어떤 사물이 최고, 또는 유명하다라는 것을 강조할 때 “the”

1. Hongdae is the place to go for clubbing.

2. You actually met the Yuna Kim? “the”를 강조할 때 발음을 “thee”라고 할 경우가 흔함

- 한 나라의 이름이 복수의 지역을 암시하고 있거나 states, kingdom, republic 또는 union이 있을 때

1. The United Kingdom.

2. The United States of America.

3. The Republic of Korea. (단순히 고유명사 Korea라고 부를때는 정관사가 없다)

4. The Netherlands

5. The Philippines

6. The British Isles

- 기관의 명칭 앞에는 정관사 “the”를 소문자로 붙인다

1. We went to the American Automatic Association

2. I want to work for the United Nations

- 특정한 사물이지만 고유명사(사람이나 나이의 이름)가 아닐때

1. The earth is a beautiful place.

2. The wind was blowing.

3. The sun was shining.

4. The future looks bright for Josh

- 하지만 특정한 사례에 대해서는 부정관사를 붙인다.

1. There is a cold wind blowing.

2. Yuna has a bright future ahead of her.

 

 

<관사가 없음> 

1. 스포츠

I play soccer.

Golf is an expensive sports.

 

2. 일반적인 개념

Inflation is rising in Korea.

People want to be respected.

East is the opposite of west

 

3. 불가산 명사를 일반적인 개념으로 말할 때.

Information is everywhere on the Internet.

1. Coffee is my favorite drink. -커피는 셀 수 없지만 손안에 든 커피는 the Coffee
2. I spilled the coffee on my computer. - 불가산 명사라도 앞에 형용사가 있거나 뒤에 명사를 꾸미는 구가 있으면 an, a를 붙인다.

Knowledge is powerful -> He has an good knowledge of French.

William Wallace has courage -> William Wallace has a courage like no other.
